The Waterfield Midstream team has diverse experiences and backgrounds well-suited for today's water challenges. Our backgrounds include significant experience across disciplines in both upstream and midstream. We have developed oil, gas, and water resources across the onshore US.
In recent years we have developed a specific passion for the challenges and opportunities of the oilfield water market, or as we like to call it...the "waterfield". We are committed to putting our expertise to work for our partners and customers.
Scott Mitchell - Co-Founder | Chief Executive Officer
Scott has worked in the oil and gas industry since 2005. Prior to co-founding Waterfield Midstream, he created and led the commercial water businesses for Anadarko Petroleum and Western Gas. At Anadarko and Western, he leveraged Anadarko’s subsurface expertise and extensive water infrastructure to provide critical water management services to other upstream companies. He also managed key operational functions of the business, including SWD placement, recycle and treatment R&D, and injection reservoir characterization. Prior to his time in the water business, Scott served as the General Manager for Anadarko’s upstream Powder River Basin assets. In the PRB, he helped execute the sale of APC’s coalbed methane assets and reposition the company in emerging oil opportunities. Scott also worked as a production engineering manager and in various geoscience roles throughout Anadarko. He holds a M.S. in Geology and a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University.
Mark Cahill - Co-Founder | EVP Corporate Development
Mark has over 25 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to co-founding Waterfield, Mark was the General Manager of Commercial Development at Anadarko Petroleum and the Director of Commercial Development at Western Gas, with responsibility for the oil, gas, and water midstream assets in the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, East Texas, Hugoton, and Appalachian Basin. Before joining Anadarko, Mark spent 7 years as Vice President of Marketing and Midstream for Linn Energy. Prior to that, Mark was in roles progressing from engineering to project management, trading, financial structuring and business development. Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M and a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas.
Bradley Oswald - Chief Financial Officer
Brad began his career in the oil and gas industry in 2007. Prior to joining Waterfield Midstream, Brad held previous roles with Lightfoot Capital Partners GP LLC, a midstream focused private equity firm. Most recently, Brad was the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Senior Vice President of Lightfoot Capital Partners GP LLC as well as the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Senior Vice President of Arc Logistics GP LLC, the general partner of Arc Logistics Partners LP, an NYSE listed public company specializing in providing third-party terminalling services. Brad was instrumental in building a public company accounting and finance function, supporting green- and brown-field investment projects, identifying, negotiating and closing acquisitions, raising third-party debt and equity capital and supporting. Prior to Arc Logistics GP LLC and Lightfoot Capital Partners GP LLC, Brad was in the Financial Advisory Services Group at Jefferies & Company, Inc. focusing on balance sheet restructurings, equity and debt financings and both buy-side and sell-side advisory assignments, from 2005 to 2007. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration, Finance and Leadership from University of Richmond.
Ben Smiley - SVP Engineering and Operations
Ben has served various engineering roles in both subsurface and operations throughout his career starting in 2011. Prior to joining Waterfield Midstream, he was Senior reservoir engineer for Anadarko in the Powder River Basin. Ben’s responsibilities included extensive M&A work, identifying exploration potential of multiple formations, operations planning and budgeting, and detailed reservoir modeling. Prior to his subsurface roles, Ben worked as a completion engineer for Anadarko’s exploration program in multiple basins covering frac design, on-site execution, and water recycling projects. Earlier in his career, he worked as a production engineer in Vernal, UT where he led engineering and chemical programs for over 800 wells, over-saw workover rig operations, and directed design of liquid gathering and saltwater disposal projects. Ben holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines.
Ken Witt - VP Surface Land
Prior to joining Waterfield Midstream, Ken served as the Director of Land in the Permian Basin for Goodnight Midstream. He also served as Land Manager for for Energy Transfer and Energen Resources, both in the Permian. Prior to those roles, he worked as a surface landman for Shell and CONSOL Energy in both their Permian and Marcellus regions. He is an Army Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and trained as a Paratrooper and JAG Officer. Ken holds a B.A. degree in Education from the University of Kentucky and a Juris Doctor of Law degree from Northern Kentucky University.
Bob Rogers - VP Finance | Controller
Bob joined Waterfield Midstream in 2018 with 30 years of Accounting and Finance experience in the Upstream, Midstream and Natural Gas Trading and Storage areas of the energy sector in the US and Canada. He most recently worked with NorTex Midstream Partners with responsibility for the Accounting and Financial Reporting, Cash Forecasting, Land Management, Insurance, Human Resources and IT. Previously, Bob served in progressive finance roles with various energy companies including Iberdrola Energy, Chevron, Duke Energy, Suncor Energy and Murphy Oil. Bob has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada and earned his certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant in Alberta in 1995.
Cole Bynum - General Manager Operations
Cole has worked in the oil and gas industry since 2009. Prior to joining Waterfield Midstream, he managed and operated one of the largest produced water gathering and disposal systems in the Permian Basin for Anadarko Petroleum and Western Gas. In addition to managing operations, Cole was involved in the design of salt water disposal facilities to increase automation, reliability, and oil recovery. Prior to Anadarko, Cole worked on the Water Management Team for LINN Energy in the Granite Wash. While at LINN, he helped design, construct, manage, and operate one of the first produced water recycling programs in the Texas Panhandle. Cole has experience with numerous water recycling and treatment methods including biological, aeration, filtration, chemical and on the fly. He holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University.
Madeleine Wagner - Commercial Development Manager
Madeleine began her career in the oil and gas industry in 2013. Before joining Waterfield Midstream, Madeleine served as a Commercial Development Engineer for Anadarko’s water gathering system. While in this role, she managed and designed produced water management projects to provide water solutions to customers in the Delaware Basin. Prior to transitioning to a Commercial Development role, Madeleine worked on the Infrastructure Planning team where she developed and designed the long term water infrastructure strategy for Anadarko and Western Gas Partner’s water gathering systems. Madeleine has also held roles as a Facilities Engineer and Production Engineer for various assets including the Eagleford, Marcellus, and Hugoton. Madeleine earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Louisiana State University, where she graduated with honors.
Marta Wasko - Senior Geologist
Prior to joining Waterfield Midstream, Marta worked as a geologist at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation where she spent the last two years developing Anadarko’s water gathering system. While in this role, she developed expertise in Permian water injection reservoir characterization through detailed reservoir mapping, correlations, core descriptions and multi-discipline integration. While at Anadarko, she gained significant experience in development and Salt Water Disposal well planning, drilling and logging operations and execution. Through her roles in planning and operations, she gained significant experience in regulatory and permitting. Prior to Anadarko, she began her career on in government regulations, working for the Maryland Department of the Environment in the Minerals, Oil and Gas Division. Marta holds a M.S. in Geology from Colorado School of Mines and she earned dual B.S. in Geology and Geography & Environmental Planning from Towson University.
Alexander McHale - Finance Associate
Alex is a Finance Associate with Waterfield Midstream. Prior to working for Waterfield, he was an Associate with Quantum Energy Partners, where his primary responsibilities included financial modeling, due diligence, transaction execution and portfolio company monitoring. Prior to joining Quantum Energy Partners, Alex was a Finance Associate with Permian Resources (f.k.a. American Energy Partners – Permian) in Oklahoma City, where he was responsible for transaction analysis, executing A&D opportunities and analyzing debt restructuring with creditors. Alex began his career as an Analyst with Evercore’s Chemicals & Energy Investment Banking Group in New York, where he was involved in a wide variety of mergers and acquisitions, and strategic advisory assignments for clients across the chemicals and energy sectors. Alex is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the Rikers Debate Project. Alex graduated from Columbia University in 2013 with a B.A. in Financial Economics.
